Wayne County announces shutdowns due to inclement weather

Wayne County government officials and University of Mount Olive administrators announced closures and postponements due to Winter Storm Jasper's impending arrival Friday.

All government offices will be closed.

Wayne County Public Library, Steele Memorial Library in Mount Olive and Pikeville Library will close at 5:30 p.m. today. The facilities will resume normal operations Monday.

County landfill and convenient centers, Peggy M. Seegars Senior Center and all COVID-19 vaccination clinics will not open.

EMS

Wayne County Emergency Management reminds residents to visit ReadyNC.gov for tips on preparing for winter weather. Sign up for CodeRed weather alerts for your address at www.waynegove.com.

Black ice and snow accumulations are expected from this storm, and travel should be kept to a minimum.

Residents are asked to shelter in place during the storm and only utilize 911 for emergencies.

GWTA

GWTA will not offer services Friday or Saturday.

Bus routes will resume Monday.

UMO

Men’s and women’s basketball road games scheduled for Friday at Emmanuel (Georgia) College and Saturday at Southern Wesleyan University have been postponed.

The campus will be closed Friday.

Online classes will continue to operate on a normal schedule. 

The open house scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 22 has also been postponed.

Duplin closures

Duplin County government offices and facilities will be closed Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, due to inclement winter weather.
