TROJAN NOTEBOOK: UMO has 6 spring Scholar Athletes-of-the-Year selections

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Six University of Mount Olive students have been named 2022 Conference Carolinas Spring Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Recipients are Brice Ballin (men’s golf), Zoe Daughtry (women’s lacrosse), Armando Ferreira (men’s tennis), Jon Wojcuich (men’s track), Jaiden Moody (women’s track) and Jarrod Ferguson (men’s volleyball).

Ballin emerged as the individual champion in the season-ending Conference Carolinas golf tournament. Daughtry helped lead UMO to the regular-season and tournament championships. Ferreira and his Trojan teammates finished runners-up in the conference tournament final. Wojcuich advanced to the NCAA Division II national outdoor track and field championship meet. Ferguson helped lead UMO to a runner-up in the conference tournament.

To be considered, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of 3.25 or higher. In addition, the nominees for the award must have been named all-conference in their sport and also chosen academic all-conference.

The Scholar Athletes-of-the-Year awards are presented by Hudl.

Keck selected

NEW ORLEANS – University of Mount Olive senior Mary Brigid Keck was named the 2022 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Regional Athlete-of-the-Year by the United States Track & Field & Cross Country Coaches Association.

A native of Ohio, Keck earned first-team All-American honors with a seventh-place finish in the hammer throw at the NCAA Division II national championship meet. She was named the Conference Carolinas Female Field Athlete-of-the-Year at the conference’s outdoor championship meet with a victory in the discus, and scoring efforts in both the hammer throw and shot put.
