Trio leads North Duplin on track


SALEMBURG – Three North Duplin athletes combined for four individual championships during the season-ending 2022 Carolina 1A Outdoor Track and Field meet Thursday afternoon.

Senior Noel Rangel captured the one-mile run (1,600 meters) in 5 minutes, 21 seconds. He emerged victorious later in the day during the two-mile run (3,200 meters) with a time of 12 minutes.

Tateyawna Faison topped the competition in the 300-meter hurdles (55.34) and finished conference runner-up in the 100 hurdles (19.54). Teammate Saniah McNeill crossed the line third in 20.94.

Antonio Sosas-Martinez secured the half-mile run (800 meters) in 2:19.

McNeill returned home with the bronze medal (third place) in the 300 hurdles.

Genaro Pacheco placed third in both the 1,600 and 3,200, while Marcus Hill earned third-place accolades in the 300 hurdles.

North Duplin’s boys finished third in the 4x1, 4x2, 4x4 and 4x8 relays.

In all, the Rebels collected 26 medals under the direction of second-year head coach Kody Kennedy.
