Traffic stop leads to felony arrest

Local authorities arrested a Goldsboro man on a felony weapon possession charge during a routine traffic stop in Mount Olive Nov. 12.

Mount Olive Sgt. Donald Gregory reportedly observed a driver commit a motor vehicle violation on South Church Street. Gregory stopped the silver Dodge Neon and searched the vehicle and its occupants.

Upon investigation, Gregory said he found one passenger, 47-year-old Dewarren Jermaine Armstrong, 603 Day Circle, Goldsboro, in possession of marijuana and a concealed .45-caliber handgun.

Gregory arrested and charged Armstrong with possessing a firearm as a felon, carrying a concealed handgun and misdemeanor possession of a schedule VI controlled substance. Armstrong was taken to the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office and booked under an $8,000 secured bond.
