Town transitioning trash pickup service

The town of Mount Olive continues to transition from contracted trash pickup to setting up its own collection schedule.

The town will start its own service effective July 1.

Jammie Royall, town manager, said officials are waiting for the new trash truck and employees to arrive. He said six to eight employees are expected to be hired.

Approximately 2,000 rollout carts need to be purchased.

The town was split into four quadrants for the service. Though exact pickup days at residences have not been announced, household trash will be collected Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday is set aside for recycling.

Elderly residents and others who face difficulty in getting their cart to the curbside should call town hall at 919-658-9539, ext. 1. Those residents can sign up for help with carts.

Royall said trash pickup by the town should save money. He plans to release the schedule June 1.
