Shoplifter caught with children in tow


A Wayne County woman faces shoplifting and delinquency of a minor charges after attempting to leave Walmart in Mount Olive.

According to an incident report on May 2, Patrolman Austin Kornegay of the Mount Olive Police Department responded to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter.

During his investigation, Kornegay determined that suspect Melissa Young walked past the point of sale area with a shopping cart containing $245.98 worth of car cleaning supplies.

A Walmart Asset Protection employee approached Young, who had two small children with her.

Kornegay arrested Young and charged her with larceny and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was taken to the Wayne County Magistrates Office and placed under a $500 secured bond.
