Royall receives positive review

Year number one is in the books.

Town Manager Jammie Royall received a positive review from the town’s board of commissioners behind closed doors.

“[It] went very well, there was not a lot of criticism and we had a good discussion,” Royall said.

The main sticking point has been the town’s wastewater treatment plant.

Royall said it remains a problem, but progress is being made. He and town officials are expected to meet with state authorities about the plant and the current state-mandated moratorium soon.

Daily work has been done on the deteriorating pipe lines, which has slowly improved the influx and infiltration issues that plague the plant. Royall hopes the state will allow additional daily sewer flow of approximately 50,000 gallons that would alleviate some problems.

“I don’t really expect them to do that just yet, but we are working our way toward that,” Royall said. “When the time is right, that is what we’ll ask for. I think they are aware of what we are doing and what we are trying to do.”
