Rotary Club honors seven Southern Wayne seniors

Seven Southern Wayne High School graduates recently received Henderson Scholarships at a Mount Olive Rotary Club meeting.

EJ Cromartie, principal of Mount Olive Middle School, presented the scholarship, which is named in memory of Dr. CC Henderson. Cromartie is a former Henderson Scholarship honoree.

Award recipients were Georgia Fulghum, Reagan Waller, Mayra Morales, Ahmad Stewart, Catherine Summerlin, Kaitlyn Whitley and Lehyssa St. Julien. They will continue their education at several different colleges and universities including University of Mount Olive, Meredith College, UNC Wilmington, Barton College, Winston-Salem State and NC State.

A committee comprised of Cromartie, the pastor of Mount Olive Presbyterian Church and a Mount Olive Middle School advisory board selected the recipients. The award is $2,000 per year for two years to a student attending a four-year institution, and $1,500 per year for any student who attends a two-year college.

Disbursements are made from Southern Bank.
