PREP ROUNDUP: Saints halt skid; Spring Creek, North Duplin win middle school football games

DUDLEY - Five players got into the scoring act as Southern Wayne snapped a five-game skid with a 3-0 victory over Quad County 3A boys’ soccer rival Hunt on Wednesday evening.

Abraham Sanchez, Damas Jean and Edgar Castaneda tallied one goal apiece for the Saints.

Jean, Gavin Simons and Wilmer Sanchez each dished out an assist.

Goalie Joey Segura recorded eight saves and logged his fourth clean sheet (shutout) of the season.

The Saints (7-6-0 overall, 3-6-0 QCC) return to action Oct. 18 at South Johnston.

Kornegay saves SCMS

SEVEN SPRINGS - Montae Kornegay’s interception sealed Spring Creek Middle School’s 14-6 triumph over Greenwood in a Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference football game Wednesday afternoon.

Darius Deal threw a touchdown pass to Kameron McDaniel.

Armad Boomhower tallied the Gators’ second touchdown, set up by Deal, who completed a 15-yard pass to Jayden McLean.

Spring Creek plays host to Grantham next Wednesday.

Rebels stay unbeaten

ALBERTSON - Travon Usher rushed for two touchdowns as North Duplin defeated B.F. Grady, 19-6, in a middle school football game Wednesday afternoon.

Usher added an extra point.

Carrell Phillips provided one touchdown.

The Rebels rolled past Rose Hill, 41-12, behind Usher’s three-touchdown performance. Ethan Turnage supplied two touchdowns.

Phillips registered one touchdown and converted five extra points.

North Duplin (4-0) entertains Beulaville on Oct. 20.
