PREP ROUNDUP: Morales sets SC soccer mark

SEVEN SPRINGS - Alex Carmona Morales set a single-game school record with seven goals during Spring Creek’s 12-0 shellacking of Neuse Six 2A boys’ soccer foe Eastern Wayne.

Morales also dished out two assists for the Gators, who remained perfect in six league outings this season.

Oswaldo Escudero provided a hat trick (three goals) and one assists, while Adrian Tavera contributed one goal and two assists. Jonah Perez Velasquez supplied one goal and one assist.

Bryan Lopez Sanchez, Jossue Pineda Hernandez and Homar Lopez each doled out an assist.

The Garors (8-2-1 overall, 6-0-0 Neuse Six 2A) faced Eastern Wayne again today and travel to Princeton on Thursday.

ND's Genaro wins meet

GOLDSBORO - North Duplin's Genaro Pacheco emerged as the top individual finisher during a Carolina 1A cross country meet ran at Rosewood on Tuesday afternoon.

Pacheco finished the 3.1-mile course in 19 minutes, 58.3 seconds.

Teammate Noel Rangel crossed the line 0.6 seconds later.

The Rebels' Ben Bullard ended up sixth in 22:21, followed by Luke Holland (seventh, 23:48), Sam Carr (eighth, 24:32) and Christian Perez (ninth, 24:37).

On the girls' side, Baker Sumner (35:31) and Judith Rangel (37:56) placed ninth and 10th for North Duplin.

Gators fall to Cougars

GOLDSBORO - Spring Creek dropped a 7-25, 11-25, 12-25 loss against Neuse Six 2A and county rival Goldsboro on Tuesday evening.

“Goldsboro has a very good team,” Gators head coach Jannah Marriner said. “We did a much better job keeping the volley going even though we often ended up losing points at the end. Our girls played hard until the last point.”

Emily Williams had one kill and one dig.

Heather Alexander (one assist), Cailyn Shivar (three digs), Yaeli Espinosa (one dig), Gabby Sutton (one dig), Sarah Hess (two digs, one ace), Eda Ham Garcia (one ace) also contributed.

The Gators conclude regular-season play at home Thursday against Beddingfield.

Saints continue slide

Alex Aldana notched Southern Wayne’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Quad County 3A boys’ soccer foe West Johnston on Tuesday.

The Saints (6-6 overall, 2-6 QCC) entertain Hunt today.

Leopards edge Rebels

CALYPSO - Geo Ayala collected North Duplin’s lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Lakewood on the Carolina 1A boys’ soccer scene.

Rebels goalie Xander Mele recorded nine saves.

North Duplin (2-7-0 overall, 2-4 Carolina) entertain Rosewood on Monday. Kickoff is 6 p.m. at H.E. Grubbs Field.

Fike sweeps Saints

DUDLEY - Fike dominated the opening set and cruised to a 25-8, 25-20, 25-20 victory over Southern Wayne in their Quad County 3A volleyball match.

Anna Summerlin paced the Saints with three kills, nine digs and five service aces. Katie Toler logged six kills and five digs. Gracie Hinson contributed two kills and four digs.

Libero Allie Lane posted 16 digs and two kills.

Taylor Lee dished out seven assists.

The Saints (4-13 overall, 3-10 QCC) conclude regular-season play at home Thursday against Charles B. Aycock.
