PREP ROUNDUP: Honeycutt sparks Gators, while Hobbton stops Rosewood

TEACHEY - Cole Honeycutt batted 4-for-4 and Campbell Cunningham threw a complete game as Spring Creek dispatched East Central 2A baseball rival Wallace-Rose Hill, 9-1, on Thursday evening.

Honeycutt provided an RBI for Spring Creek, which improved to 3-3 overall and 3-3 in league matters this season.

Jackson Lewis went 2-for-2 with two runs scored.

Douglas Davidson (two RBI) and Harrison Sutton (two RBI) provided one hit apiece.

Cunningham permitted eight hits, walked two and retired three Bulldogs on strikeouts. Wallace-Rose Hill tallied its lone run in the third inning.

The Gators swept the season series.

Rebels drop league outing

NEWTON GROVE - Hobbton built an early-inning lead and eased past North Duplin, 5-2, in a Carolina 1A baseball game contested Thursday evening.

Landon Kelly and Gage Outlaw paced the Rebels’ offense with two hits apiece. Tyler Johnsey, Andy Cameron (two RBI) and Eric Rosas each supplied one hit.

Cameron cranked out a bases-clearing double in the sixth inning.

Kelly endured the mound loss. He allowed five runs (three earned), walked four and struck out five Hobbton batters in 5 2/3 innings. Reliever Rosas ended the Wildcats’ sixth with a strikeout.

The Rebels (3-3 overall, 3-3 Carolina) travel to Neuse Charter on May 20.
