DURHAM - Wayne County Post 11 continued its recent dominance on the mound Thursday evening.
Daniel Weeks threw a complete-game, two-hit shutout in a 2-0 decision over Durham Post 7 at Jordan High School.
Weeks (1-0) sat down six Post 7 hitters on strikeouts, walked two and collected a total of 57 strikes during his 95-pitch outing. He became the seventh Post 11 hurler to emerge victorious on the bump this season and second to log a complete game.
Durham picked up hits in the second and sixth innings.
However, Post 7 couldn’t capitalize on two free passes and two Post 11 defensive miscues.
Wayne County's bullpen has held opponents to just two runs in the last 28 innings of play and recorded two shutouts.
Logan Merritt (2-for-3) pushed Post 11 ahead 1-0 on a one-out, one-strike double in the first inning. He plated lead-off man Lane McLean, who walked and stole second and third base.
Andrew Crumpler (1-for-1) reached on a pinch-hit single and stole home in the seventh to give Weeks a little extra wiggle room.
Wayne County, which scratched out just three hits, extended its win streak to six and climbed to 10-2 overall. Post 11 faces Caldwell County today at Keeter Stadium in Shelby.
