Town officials are ready to destroy an old property that continues to delay sidewalk construction.
The ongoing effort to obtain an easement on the South Church Street property is “being handled with diplomacy instead of condemnation.”
An agreement needs to be reached soon.
Town attorney W. Carroll Turner informed town commissioners during their November meeting that the owner planned to visit Mount Olive to get “an eyes-on view.” The town has legally obtained the rights to condemn the property.
“We are waiting for the property owner to come here and get a look at what we plan to do,” Royall said.
The three-phase, three-year project involves work on Franklin, Nelson, South Church and Hillsboro streets.
