Lighting remains concern in town

Duke Energy continues to review the town of Mount Olive’s need for lights in certain locations.

Jammie Royall, town manager, said major areas of concern are along N.C. Highway 55 West into the city limits.

The speed limit has been reduced from 45 to 35 mph in both directions of the highway out of town, but there are no lights.

“What we are trying to do is get actual street lights in those sections,” Royall said. “I think what they [Duke Energy] are doing is still trying to find the best way to get it done at the least amount of cost.”

Town personnel and police officers identified 79 various locations that need additional lighting.

Royall added if there are residents in town who live where there are no street lights, they should contact town hall.
