NEWTON GROVE - High-scoring Hobbton erupted for 30 second-half points and cruised to a 50-22, non-conference decision over Spring Creek on Friday evening.
Dylan Davidson tallied two touchdowns and 86 yards on 10 carries for the. Gators, who lost their third straight against Hobbton. Quarterback Robert Strickland churned out 87 yards on 10 attempts and his lone pass completion was a 56-yard touchdown strike to Damian Haney.
Haney hauled in two receptions for 63 yards.
“Offensively, I didn’t create a good enough game plan to move the ball,” said SC head coach Daniel Robinson. “Our offense stalled too much and never got into a rhythm. Dylan, Robert and David Williams continued to run the ball well.
“Haney continues to emerge as a true receiving threat”
SC compiled 205 yards on the ground.
Williams, Cory Davis and Orrin Tickles emerged as the defensive leaders with nine tackles apiece. Davis logged nine stops for the second consecutive week.
“David and Cory were all the over the field making plays on defense,” Robinson said.
Hobbton leads the all-time series 13-5.
The Gators (2-2 overall) head to Eastern Wayne next Friday. It’s the first of two meetings between the Neuse Six 2A opponents, but will not count in the conference standings.
