Hill has busy days ahead

Justin Hill faces a busy schedule as the town’s new building inspector.

He and Town Manager Jammie Royall met to discuss enforcement of town codes on abandoned houses, unattended weeded lots and grass-cutting violations that lead to clogged storm drains.

“When he takes over the position, there will not be a lot of inspections to be done because of the moratorium we are still under,” Royall said. “We need to be stricter with the ordinances we have. I think it is a number one priority for our new building inspector to look seriously at the issues of weeded lots, old cars and abandoned houses.

“We have someone who can get the job done and enforcement will be the main focus.”

Royall expects to see residents either cease violating town codes or pay a fine.

The moratorium has halted construction at the town’s wastewater treatment plant.

Hill officially takes over July 1.
