DUNN — Mr. Gordon Douglas Darby, 69, passed away Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, at his home.
Gordon was born July 31, 1952, in Nash County, son of the late John Bobby and Elma Glynn Allman Darby. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Raymond and Bobby Darby.
Gordon was retired from the U.S. Army where he served multiple tours in the Vietnam War and received the Silver Star Medal. Gordon also served with the 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), Fort Myer, Virginia, as an Old Guard sentinel.
He also was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a member of Baptist Chapel Church.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021, at Baptist Chapel Church with the Rev. Alan Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Gordon is survived by his wife, Carol Page Darby; sons, Brandon Lee Jones of Maple Hill and Curtis Gordon Darby of Texas; daughter, Tonya Page Register and husband Troy of Dunn; brothers, Ronald and Alan Darby, both of Zebulon; and grandchildren, Annalise Page Register, Ava Grace Register and Caden Lee Register.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.
