Gators, Blue Devils split varsity doubleheader

DEEP RUN - Spring Creek’s basketball teams visited Munn Gymnasium and split their varsity doubleheader.

The Gator boys fended off the Blue Devils, 42-40.

“We were up 36-27 with about three minutes left…had one turnover and a lane violation, missed a few throws and they cut it, but couldn’t quite catch us,” said second-year SC head coach Jeff Davis.

“We led the entire game. [We] still didn’t shoot great, but played very well defensively.”

Jamill Burrell and Deyjohn Leonard led three Gators in double figures with 12 points apiece. Calvin Alphin contributed 10 points. Alphin and Burrell each grabbed seven rebounds.

SC has committed just 14 turnovers in two games this season.

“A huge improvement,” Davis said.

On the girls’ side, Madison Broughton scored eight points and pulled down six rebounds during a 50-17 loss. Teammate Emily Williams collected six points, two assists and two steals.

Spring Creek plays host to Jones Sr. today.
