The Education Committee of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce presented Golden Apple Award for November to two area teachers. Honored were Abigail Briones, a third grade dual language teacher at Harnett Primary School, and Shawana Cameron, a sixth through eighth self contained multi-categorical (SCMC) teacher assistant at Dunn Middle School.

Abigail Briones was presented the award by Dunn Chamber Executive Vice President Heather Lawson, Harnett Primary School Principal Calvetta Dunkins and Assistant Principal Tamekkia Cotton.

Briones received two nominations. The first nomination was from co-worker and co-teacher Sarah Davis. The nomination stated, “Mrs. Briones is a very passionate and enthusiastic educator. She is always trying her best to make learning fun for our students. I couldn’t have handpicked a better teacher for HPS! Her dedication is admirable!”

The second nomination was from the parent of student Jocelyn Young, and stated, “She really loves her students plus if they need an extra pick me up she is always there to brighten their days. She truly is a remarkable teacher and my daughter says until the end of time she will always be her favorite teacher. Even through all this crazy time we are going through she will take time out of her day to let me know how my daughter is doing because of her my daughter loves going to school because she makes her smile and laugh.”

Shawana Cameron

Shawana Cameron was presented the Golden Apple Award by Dunn Chamber Vice President of Education Hope Tyndall and Dunn Middle School Principal Dr. Janet Doffermyre.

Cameron received an anonymous nomination that stated, “Ms. Cameron is always going above and beyond for students and her team. She genuinely cares for the students and is often a bright spot in their day. She works tirelessly to get things accomplished and she is a wonderful addition to the EC team.”

The Golden Apple Award is a chamber program to help recognize the efforts of standout teachers in the Dunn area schools. Administrators, teachers, counselors, parents and students are encouraged to nominate an outstanding teacher currently teaching full time at a Dunn area public or private school, which is an active member of the Dunn Area Chamber of Commerce.
