Dellinger Company of South Carolina has earned the contract to complete interior work at the Mount Olive Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Jammie Royall, town manager, said the company offered a bid of $1.5 million. Work is expected to begin immediately and be completed within one year.
Dellinger is handling Phase I of the project, which cost $3.7 million to remove a 300-acre tree farm. That project is ongoing.
Royall said the interior work involves updates and improvements that include increasing the size of the system, which should effectively handle inflow into the plant, and alleviate continuous sewage spills at the plant.
Phase I exceeded anticipated costs, which forced local officials to meet with state authorities to find a solution for the plant’s problems.
The facility is currently under a state-mandated moratorium.
Royall hopes the moratorium will be lifted, which will allow the town to take on new customers.
