Sherry Davis has been officially named the town’s new clerk.
The town’s board of commissioners made the announcement after a 30-minute closed session during its regularly scheduled monthly meeting.
Mayor Pro-Tem Steve Wiggins motioned for the move and Barbara Kornegay seconded.
A native of Mount Olive, Davis has been employed with the town since July 2002. She has served as the town manager’s administrative assistant for nearly 20 years.
Her husband, Mitchell, is the town’s public works director.
The daughter of the late Burgus and Gladys Ezzell, she graduated from Southern Wayne in 1987 and earned a degree in business administration from Campbell University in 1991.
Davis has served with five mayors and three town managers.
“I would like to thank the mayor and the town board for giving me the opportunity to fill this position and having the confidence in me,” Davis said.
Davis replaces former town clerk Kay Anderson, who retired earlier this year. She will continue to serve as administrative assistant to Town Manager Jammie Royall.
Royall expects the town’s new finance officer to start May 17. Contract negotiations continue.
The town also seeks a new payroll clerk.
