COVID death hits town's labor force

The recent COVID-19 death of a town public works employee has hit home hard and Town Manager Jammie Royall said he has been tormented by the incident.

The employee died after a several-months stay in the hospital.

Since the death, Royall said, there have been no other cases among the town’s labor force.

He did not say whether the employee who passed had been vaccinated or not.

While Royall does not have the numbers to back it up, he says feels at least 50% of the town’s employees have received both vaccinations.

The town has 76 employees.

“I had rather see us at 100%,” he said. “It is a touchy subject, but I don’t understand why people think someone is trying to tell them to do something. It is for your own good. I will never understand it.”

He said the town still does not require its employees to have the vaccination or weekly tests.

Royall received both vaccinations and says he’ll get the booster when it’s available.

“I strongly recommend it for everyone,” he said.

Masks are required for anyone entering a town facility.
