Council to reconsider mask mandate

Mount Olive officials plan to discuss the town’s mask mandate during its next commissioners meeting.

Jammie Royall, town manager, said the decision to either keep or remove the mandate is his responsibility. However, he feels more comfortable sharing his thoughts with the board first.

The town normally follows county action.

Wayne County recently removed its mask mandate by a 3-2 vote.

Royall said no active cases of COVID have been reported among the town’s labor force. Employees continue to follow safety recommendations and wear masks on the job.

One employee did die from the virus.

County officials continue to encourage residents to get vaccination and booster shots.
