Car break-in suspect faces 27 felony charges


Local authorities incarcerated a Goldsboro man on 27 felony charges stemming from an eight-day investigation regarding car break-ins.

A total of 17 vehicles break-ins were reported in the Goldsboro, Pikeville and La Grange areas of Wayne County from May 15 through May 23.

Investigators from the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office looked into the incidents and developed 34-year-old Andrew Casey Hanner, of 112 Woodside Circle, as a suspect and issued warrants for his arrest.

On May 27, deputies with the WCSO ACE Team observed Hanner operating a motor vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Hanner took officers on a lengthy vehicle chase around Goldsboro before he was taken into custody, according to a WCSO release.

Hanner was charged with 17 felony counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle, 12 counts of misdemeanor larceny, two felony counts of possessing a firearm as a felon, two felony counts of larceny of a firearm, one count of felony larceny, four felony counts of financial transaction card theft, three counts of misdemeanor possession of stolen goods and one count of felony fleeing to elude arrest.

The Wayne County Magistrate issued a $1,460,000 secured bond to Hanner, who remained in custody Friday at the Wayne County Detention Center.
