NEW BERN - Three Southern Wayne competitors earned individual titles during the season-ending 2021 Eastern Carolina 3A-4A Conference outdoor track and field championship meet Wednesday afternoon.

Not surprisingly, senior Tayvon Callahan collected gold medals in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles. The lanky sprinter posted a time of 14.5 seconds in the 110 and 42 seconds in the 300.

Callahan has not lost a meet this season.

Teammate Jerome Moore seized the ECC crown in the 100 dash with a time of 10.8 seconds.

The Saints won the 4x4 relay in 3:40.8 and finished league runner-up to county rival Charles B. Aycock by 0.7 seconds in the 4x1 relay.

Darius Jackson secured a bronze medal (third) in the 400.

Sophomore Taniyah Glaspie, like Callahan, didn’t taste defeat in conference meets this season. The younger sister of Barton standout Takeitha, she easily swept the 100 and 200.
