Barbara Ann Ward Hartgrove, 72, passed away Thursday, Sept. 16, 2021, a day shy of her 73rd birthday.
A native of Robeson County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Elmer Junior and Mary Ruth Liles Ward. She was a graduate of Red Springs High School and Miller Motte College. Barbara worked for Campbell University as the associate director of financial aid for 17 years. She also was an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Dunn and the Lucknow Garden Club.
Barbara and Jerry enjoyed many years being avid supporters of their children and grandchildren while they participated in sports. Her gentle nature made her one of their strongest cheerleaders! Barbara was her happiest at ballgames and during time spent with special friends.
A service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Dunn at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 2021. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Jerry Wayne Hartgrove of the home; two sons, Lyle Geoffrey Hartgrove and wife Parrish of Raleigh, and Alan Trent Hartgrove of Dunn; one sister, Nancy Ward Herndon of Wilmington; three brothers, John William Ward and Ronald Wayne Ward, both of Wallace, South Carolina, and Arthur Elmer Ward III of Marston, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Carter Brett Hartgrove of Wilmington, Sydney Grace Hartgrove of Charlottesville, Virginia, and Michael Anthony Johnson Jr. and wife France of Charlotte.
The family is grateful for the extraordinary care provided for Barbara during her prolonged illness. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request contributions to Liberty Hospice, 105 Hunt Valley Drive, Dunn, NC 28334.
