The short winding road that leads into the Mount Olive Municipal Airport has a new look — a smoother look.
Mount Olive Town Manager Charles Brown said the badly-deteriorated road had been somewhat of an embarrassment for a long time. It has now been resurfaced.
He had praises for the North Carolina Department of Transportation (DOT) for completing the project several weeks ago.
Riding along the entrance now is like riding in a Cadillac on the highway, Brown said.
The project was included in DOT’s resurfacing of a nearly 5-mile stretch of Breazeale Avenue that was completed several months ago.
DOT also still plans to remark Breazeale Avenue with more durable and visible materials, Brown said.
The road that leads into the airport was plagued with cracked pavement and potholes.
He said the completion of the project has also been praised by just about everyone who uses the airport or travels to it.
