Construction on the new Southern Wayne High School gym is set to be complete by late October 2020, according to Wayne County Public Schools officials, who gathered at the site Tuesday afternoon for an official ground-breaking.
“The Wayne County Board of Education and Board of Commissioners are excited to officially break ground on this $6.4 million competition gym,” said Dr. Michael Dunsmore, WCPS superintendent. “As I have shared before, constructing a competition gym, similar to what can be found on other high school campuses around our county, has been long needed for the Southern Wayne High School community. We look forward to being able to provide the school with a state-of-the-art facility that offers more locker room space to students and athletes, while at the same time ensuring visitors have access to modern ADA compliant restrooms and bleachers.”
Work on the site began a few weeks ago.
