Wayne County Public Schools will postpone workouts until Aug. 24, according to an email sent to principals and athletic directors on Thursday.
The start date recognizes the five-day “dead period” instituted by the N.C. High School Athletic Association.
The decision also applies for middle school athletics. Middle school ADs will follow the NCHSAA guidance and decision making process regarding the start of the fall sports season.
Earlier this week, the NCHSAA moved into Phase 2 of its plan on Aug. 3. Que Tucker, commissioner of the NCHSAA, hopes to make an announcement about the status of fall sports within the next couple of weeks.
North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper extended Phase 2 until Aug. 7.
