WCMSAC football: Grantham prevails in wild affair


SEVEN SPRINGS – Jalen Hardy broke free for the game-winning touchdown with 57.6 seconds left in regulation, and lifted Grantham past Spring Creek, 40-38, in a Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference football encounter last week.

Hardy collected four touchdowns on runs of 5, 40, 40 and 5 yards for the Bulldogs, who snapped a three-game skid.

Quarterback Logan Denning accounted for two touchdowns — an eight-yard strike to Kaeden Hinson and a three-yard run midway through the fourth quarter.

Spring Creek signal caller Darius Deal orchestrated five scoring possessions. He threw touchdown passes of 54 and 70 yards to Jayleen Hocutt, and connected with Kamron McDaniel on a 68-yard touchdown throw.

Deal added scoring runs of 10 and 5 yards.

The wild contest included seven lead changes in the second half.

Grantham (1-3 overall) entertained Greenwood on Tuesday, while Spring Creek (2-3) visits Dillard. The games were moved up a day due to early dismissal on Oct. 27.
