Wayne County blanks Ottawa (Ohio) in 5 innings

SOCASTEE, S.C. - Perfection.

Wayne County Post 11 completed its weekend trip to the Palmetto State with a 10-0, five-inning conquest of Ottawa (Ohio) at Socastee High School on Sunday afternoon.

Grey Gurganious drew the starting nod, yielded two hits and collected six strikeouts during his three-inning stint. Bullpen mate Daniel Weeks tossed two innings of one-hit relief.

Their teammates gave them plenty of working room early.

Logan Merritt slapped a two-out, two-strike double to right field. Mason Moffett followed with an RBI double. Nate Smith and Davis Albert each swatted an RBI-double to make it 3-0.

Post 11 extended its advantage to six runs after two innings.

Two of Wayne County’s final four runs came off of sacrifice flies from Smith and Carson Gipson.

Moffett and Davis (three RBI) paced Post 11 with two hits apiece. Lane McLean (RBI), Braeden Collins (RBI), Landon Sutton (RBI), Merritt, Smith, Carter Aycock and Drew Sweet contributed one hit apiece.

Wayne County (18-3 overall) returns home June 22 for an Area I East Division game against Pitt County Post 39. First pitch is 7 p.m. at Rosewood High School.
