The Trojans' lacrosse team fought in a tightly contested matchup and were able to complete the comeback against the Bulldogs of Wingate to win 11-10 in overtime.
Wingate jumped out to a lead early on in the matchup getting a goal in the 15th minute. Thatcher Clark scored in the ninth minute to tie the game up at 1-1 early in the first quarter. Wingate would go on to score a minute later, but Gunner Parson who assisted on Thatcher Clark's goal in the ninth minute was able to score a goal of his own in the sixth minute to once again tie the game up, this time at two.
Wingate scored two more times in the first quarter to take a 4-2 lead into the second quarter. It was a quiet second quarter for the Trojans as Tyler Keele scored the only goal in the quarter for Mount Olive. Wingate added three goals of their own to take a 7-3 lead into half-time.
Mount Olive outscored the Bulldogs 4-3 in the third quarter getting goals from Caleb Hippensteel, Blake Tallon, Austin Peper, and Thatcher Clark. The Trojans needed a big fourth quarter and that's exactly what they got. Mount Olive held Wingate scoreless in the fourth while scoring three goals to tie up the ballgame at 10 heading into the end of regulation.
Late in the first overtime period, Senior Thatcher Clark came up big scoring his third goal of the game putting the nail in the coffin giving Mount Olive the 11-10 win. The win pushed the Trojans record to 8-1 on the season and they are still undefeated at home (6-0).
Mount Olive's next match will be on Saturday at Belmont Abbey. Faceoff is set for 1.
