Town to apply for CBDG funds

The town of Mount Olive plans to apply for a Community Development Block Grant with the Department of Housing and Urban Development to finance infrastructure projects.

The 100% federal grant does not require matching funds.

CBDG funding is used to improve conditions in low-income areas.

Jammie Royall, interim town manager, did not divulge the amount the town seeks from HUD. He neither revealed the type of infrastructure work needed nor the areas of town involved in the project.

Royall plans to release details at a later date and said the project should begin sometime after the new year.

Over the years, the town has received millions of dollars to repair its infrastructure and rehab housing in low-income areas.

Royall anticipates submitting the application this month.
