Town officials plan to discuss the new fire department funding with state Rep. John Bell (R-Wayne) and Wayne County Commissioner Freeman Hardison.
Hardison has mentioned state funding is available, but a proposal must be written and submitted.
Jammie Royall, town manager, hopes Bell and Hardison will sit down with the town’s board of commissioners. He feels Bell can probably help the town “open some doors” for state assistance.
The town has acquired nearly 6 acres of land near Carver Elementary School to construct a $7 million facility.
Architectural plans have already been drawn.
