Town replaces tattered flags

Some residents with relatives buried in town cemeteries registered concerns about the tattered flags flying at cemeteries and town facilities.

The town of Mount Olive responded quickly.

Flags at Maplewood and Carver cemeteries have already been replaced.

The flags at town hall, the Veterans Memorial and the Carver Cultural Center have also been replaced.

Interim Town Manager Jammie Royall said he does not know who filed the complaint, but he got word some residents were upset about the ragged condition of the flags. He said it was simply an oversight, adding the flags will be replaced as needed in the future.

Royall said the recent storm most likely had something to do with the tattered condition of the flags.

The local Woodmen of the World usually provided flags at no cost to the town, but Royall said, in this case, the town bought them and replaced them as soon as possible.
