The latest executive order issued by Governor Roy Cooper has called for the closure of state parks.
Following his lead, Mount Olive officials say Westbrook and Nelson Street Parks are also closed to the public due to the coronavirus pandemic. Each park’s restroom facilities are locked.
The order went into effect March 23 and includes parks, playgrounds, restrooms, athletic playing fields, basketball courts and shelters.
The lone exclusion in Mount Olive is the pedestrian walking trail. Town officials urge guidelines and precautions such as alerting other walkers when you pass them, or stepping aside to let other walkers pass. Social distancing is also recommended.
