Plans for trash pickup next year in Mount Olive continues to move forward.
Town Manager Jammie Royall said he met with Fleet Management officials on Sept. 28 with plans to purchase two new trucks. Fleet Management will handle the vehicles’ maintenance.
The company has replaced nearly 50% of the town’s vehicles with 2020 models.
Royall said three employees will be hired to operate the trucks on a four-day basis — three for garbage and one for recyclables. The town is broken into four quadrants and a detailed schedule will be provided before service starts in July.
There have been complaints about service in recent months.
When the plan is implemented, residents will see new trash collection containers purchased by the town. Royall said the “crank-up cost” is a big expenditure, but should result in long-term savings.
The town currently has a garbage pickup contract with a Goldsboro firm. The annual expense is approximately $350,000.
