It could easily be labeled icing on the cake, and a town the size of Mount Olive certainly fits the description.
The town receives approximately $90,000 annually in rental fees for use of its water tower by U.S. Cellular, Verizon and AT&T.
Town Manager Charles Brown said it has been a big source of revenue for years.
“This is revenue we receive for renting space that we have and can do nothing else with,” said Brown.
He did say the use of the tower on South Chestnut Street is full.
Brown called it “a great source of revenue” that has brought in thousands of dollars to the town’s purse.
The town manager said he is not sure how long the firms have been using the towers for transmitting purposes, but they have been there since he took the position a dozen years ago.
The tower being used is located at the town’s public works facility.
