The second phase of a three-year sidewalk construction project could begin soon, according to interim Town Manager Jammie Royall.
Engineers designed a plan, but had to resolve easement acquisition from several property owners.
Now, workers can start to pour concrete on the east side of Church Street from Franklin to Nelson streets.
“I’m hoping we can have the second phase of the project completed before cold weather sets in,” Royall said.
Phase three involves work on the east side of Church Street from Nelson to Hillsboro streets. The final phase is construction from the intersection of South Church and Hillsboro streets west to Center Street.
The project evolved from a state pedestrian and bike trail study, and the need to improve safety on the south side of town.
