Mount Olive Police continue a probe into a shooting that occurred several weeks ago at a local convenient mart that left a man hospitalized and property damage to vehicles hit by gunfire.
Thirty-year-old Demario Montrell Leach of 103 Pearl St. was hospitalized with gunshot wounds to his shoulder, foot and back during an incident at the D & H Mart on Pollock Street.
Officers said gunfire erupted at the business shortly after noon on Sept. 28.
The shooter still has not been identified.
Investigators said witnesses told them an argument erupted inside the business.
An officer said when he arrived at the scene the victim stumbled out the door. He said he discovered the man had been hit by bullets in the shoulder, foot and back.
The victim told police the shooter left running on foot, and a search of the area was conducted.
A cousin of the victim told police the two were in the store when a male with a blue hat and a bandanna over his face shot Leach outside the store.
Officers said there were also bullet holes in the victim’s car.
Another witness, police said, told them she was in the store when the gunfire broke out and she ran to her car because of three children that were in it.
Bullets had flattened a tire and entered in the rear driver side quarter panel.
The incident is still under investigation.
In another issue under probe by local police, a woman living on East John Street reported the theft of jewelry valued at slightly more than $7,000.
She told officers she had placed the jewelry in her vehicle at her home and discovered it was gone when she returned from an out-of-town trip.
She told police she did not recall whether she had locked her vehicle or not.
