Shooting in Dudley sends one to the hospital

A shooting took place last night at 214 Blue Ridge Drive in Dudley where 43-year-old Ronaza Earl Bunn of Dudley was transported to the hospital after multiple gunshot wounds from shooting suspect 20-year-old Nakia Lequan Atkins of Dudley.

Nakia Lequan Atkins of Dudley was detained and transported to the Sheriff’s Annex building to be interviewed last night after he was suspected of shooting Ronaza Earl Bunn inside their residence in Dudley. Upon arriving at 214 Blue Ridge Drive, the patrol deputies were met by Atkins who was on the front porch holding his hands up.

Deputies found Bunn lying on the floor in the living room suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and as they were applying first aid, one male, one female, and a 4-year-old child appeared from the back of the house to meet the deputies in the living room. Bunn was later transported to Wayne UNC Healthcare and then transported to Vidant Hospital in Greenville.

After interviews with the two other adults in the home, Deputies found out that several shots had been fired inside the home at multiple individuals with only Bunn sustaining gunshot wounds.  No one had any information as to why Atkins started shooting.

During Atkin's stay at the Annex, he experienced a medical emergency and was transported to Wayne UNC Healthcare.  He has been released and charged with one count of Attempted First Degree Murder ($500,000.00 bond) and two counts of Assault with a Deadly Weapon with the Intent to Kill ($50,000.00 bond each count).

Atkins has been placed in the Wayne County Detention Center. No information has currently been provided on Mr.Bunn's status.
