GOLDSBORO — Tiffany Taylor from Seven Springs is one of two Wayne Community College students to receive a State Employees Credit Union (SECU) scholarship.
The scholarship is valued at $5,000 and funded through the SECU Foundation People Helping People Two-Year Scholarship program for North Carolina community colleges.
The scholarship can be used to pay for full-time tuition, books, fees, course supplies and transportation while the students are enrolled at WCC.
Taylor and fellow recipient Anita Keys of Goldsboro are both freshmen working toward associate in science degrees. Taylor plans to continue her education and is considering enlisting in the United States Air Force.
Keys plans to enroll in WCC’s nursing program.
Based on SECU’s philosophy of “People Helping People,” the scholarships recognize recipients’ leadership, character, integrity, community involvement and scholastic achievement.
Each year, the SECU Foundation scholarship program provides two “People Helping People” Scholarships to each of the 58 community colleges in North Carolina.
To date, over $9 million has been awarded to community college students.
