Revivals coming up at local churches

Greetings from the Wesley Smith Chapel community.

Several events have been planned at local churches:

Holy Ghost Catheral Church on James Street in Mount Olive will host a revival service at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday with revivalist preacher Apostle Leroy Hargett of Lifechanging Ministry of Princenton officiating. The Apostles Preston and Jesse Grimes invite you to come and fellowship.

Holy Temple UHC in Calypso will celebrate Family and Friends Day at 11 a.m. Sunday with Elder Scottie Rogers delivering the message and music by the choir.

St. James Church of Christ on Breazeale Avenue in Mount Olive will celebrate a homecoming and memorial service at 11 a.m. Sunday with special guest Preacher Evangelist Sonja Troublefield Sloan of Greensboro and music by the St. James choir. Dinner will be served. The Pastor Elder Ernest and Evangelist Sadie Watson invite you to come and fellowship.

Little Rock Church of Christ in Pikeville will celebrate its 139th church anniversary at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22 with Elder Rodney Core delivering the message and music by the choir. Dinner will be served. The theme will be “God did it again.” The Little Rock Church Anniversary Committee invites each and everyone to come and help celebrate.

An appreciation service will be held for Supervisor Edmond Edwards at 4 p.m. Sunday at St. John OFWB Church, 440 Jim Grady Road, with guest preacher and supervisor Elder Marvin Taylor and music by the Tabernacle Choir. You are asked to bring your monetary gift or mail the gifts to Elder Demaris Stevens for Elder Edmond Edwards at 1902 Claremont Circle, Wilson NC. Lets show love to the man of God who has served for 20 years.

Pastor Janice Williams will preside at Darden Chapel Church’s Women Fellowship Service at 4 p.m. Sunday in Goldsboro where the pastor is Elder Carlton and Sandra Barnes.

Pastor Bernestine Royal and Deliverance Center Ministry, 1354 Kenan Weeks Road, Newton Grove, will host a revival at 7 p.m. services on Sept. 11-13 with guest revivalist preacher Apostle Edna Cavenaugh of Richland. Pastor Royal invites you to come and fellowship.

First Baptist Church Calypso invites you to a fall revival at 7:30 each night Sept. 11-13 with revivalist guest preacher Elder Michael Maddox. Different choirs will provide the music. The Pastor Elder Anthony Ezzell invites you.

The First Baptist Church Choir will celebrate its anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15 with several choirs on the program.

Goldsboro Raleigh Assembly, 211 Hooks River Road, Goldsboro, will celebrate Family Reunion Fun Day 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21 with food vendors and a lot of fun of activities and games. Paynes Temple Church’s homecoming will be held at 3 p.m. on fourth Sunday in September. Dinner will be served. A worship service is held there every Sunday morning at 11 a.m.

An appreciation celebration for musician Patrick Atkinson Sr. will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5 at Goshen Disciple Church, 7120 Suttontown Road, Faison, with special guests the Atkinson Family Mass Choir, Designed for Purpose, The Wade Sisters, Lamanuel Boykin and Company of Reigelwood and The Kingdom Builders of Goldsboro. Emcee for the celebration will be David (Pete) Atkinson. The Pastor Elder Donald DeWitt, the Goshen Church Family and sister Matilda Ward invite you to join them in this celebration.

In Memoriam

Edward Pistol Allen, formerly of the Smith Chapel community and most recently of Rose Hill, died on Aug. 30 at his home. Pistol was well known in all parts of Duplin County. A homegoing celebration was held at 1 p.m. on Monday at New Christian Chapel MB Church in Rose Hill. He is survived by his son Jeramine Allen; one brother, Ralph Allen and wife Carolyn of Goldsboro; one sister-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and many other family and friends. Pistol was not a stranger to anynone. He will surely be missed. You could always know when he was present.
