Remembering the ones we’ve lost

Posted

Greetings and happy holidays from the Wesley Smith Chapel Community and from Elder Kenneth and Mother Vesta Freeman and the St. Luke Church family. I pray and hope everyone had a safe Thanksgiving with your mask on, staying 6 feet apart, washing your hands and not out in crowds if you didn’t have to be.

It is with heavy hearts that our prayers and condolences are with the family of Sabeian Raekwon Vernell Mathis, who died Sunday morning, Nov. 29, in Wallace.

Sabeian was 20-years old and is the son of Trudy Newkirk, the grandson of Elder John and Carolyn Newkirk of Rose Hill and the nephew of Evangelist Michelle Newkirk Powell.

Visitation was held between 4 and 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4 at Rose Hill Funeral Home, 472 Wells Town Road, Rose Hill. A private ceremony was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Rose Hill Funeral Home with Elder Terrell Powell officiating. Sabeian was a member of Last Day Outreach Ministry where he served as a drummer. His pastor and grandmother was Elder Carolyn Newkirk and his grandfather was Elder John Newkirk. Please keep the family in your prayers.

Our prayers and sympathy are also with Deacon James Jones, who died on Sunday, Nov. 29, at Wayne UNC Hospital in Goldsboro. Deacon James Jones was a longtime member of Holly Hill Church of Christ in La Grange where his pastor was Elder Keith Robinson. Please keep the children and grandchildren along with the family in your prayers.

Our hearts were also saddened to learn of the death of Vicky Bynum Wallace, 56, who died on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. J.B. Rhodes Funeral Home in Goldsboro is handling the arrangements.

The burial will be at the Bynum Family Cemetery in Dudley. For more information, contact her aunt Judy Dianne West at 919-736-8438.
