MOUNT OLIVE — Rachel “Rabbit” Winders Singleton Carlton, 90, a longtime resident of the Scott’s Store community, and later, the Johnson Church area near Warsaw, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2019.
Funeral services were held Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive with visitation afterward. Officiating was the Rev. Mark S. Hobbs. Burial was Feb. 21 at 11:30 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park. Memorial gifts may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9810, 364 Bruce Costin Road, Warsaw NC 28398.
She is survived by two sons, Milton Ray Singleton and wife, Mary, and Jerry Drew Singleton and wife, Carolyn, all of Mount Olive; a daughter, Phyllis S. Holmes and husband, Milton, of Mount Olive; a brother, J.L. Winders of Florida; three sisters, Malina W. Kearney of Eureka, and Geraldine W. Deaver and Annie Melba W. Thompson, both of Mount Olive; eight grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Delmus “Omar” Singleton; her husbands, Johnny Milton “Gruff” Singleton and Ward Carlton; parents, Major and Nettie Winders; three brothers; and five sisters.
