PREP NOTEBOOK: SW girls top West Johnston


BENSON - Nevaeh Hines-Bass dropped in 14 points to lead unbeaten Southern Wayne past West Johnston, 46-32, in a Quad County 3A girls’ basketball contest Tuesday evening.

Jamaiya Bass tallied 11 points for the Saints, who rose to 14-0 overall this season and 6-0 against league opposition.

JaMaya Leach contributed eight points and five assists. Ta’Niyah Glaspie supplied seven points and 14 rebounds.

The Saints defeated West, 28-16, in JV girls action.

Nygeria Thompson pumped in 15 points for Southern Wayne, now 7-2 overall and 6-0 in QCC play. Kyren Strong had six and Mylie Hatfield scored five.

East Wake invades Dudley today for a quadruple header.

Gators fall

Vanessa Duruttya collected 10 points and three rebounds during Spring Creek’s 62-26 loss to Neuse Six 2A rival Beddingfield on Tuesday.

Freshman Heather Alexander delivered seven points and seven rebounds.

Emily Williams contributed five points, two assists and two steals.

The Gators (5-9 overall, 0-3 Neuse Six) entertain Eastern Wayne on Thursday and North Johnston on Friday.
