Wayne County Post 11 was set to begin the playoffs hosting a home game Tuesday against Pitt Post 39, but even with a guaranteed playoff spot, coach Adam Pate didn’t allow his team to get cocky as they beat Fuquay-Varina Post 116 in their last home game of the regular season, 6-2.
Rosewood’s Will Harris picked up the victory on the mound and Post 11 had the bats working as Blake Gipson, future UMO Baseball player Case Kermode and Clay Matthews all recorded two hits on the day. Kermode went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases while Gipson and Matthews also had two stolen bases each. This season, Post 11 eclipsed 20 wins making it the first time since 2007-08 where Post 11 has eclipsed 20 wins in back-to-back seasons.
Playoffs for Post 11 began at 7 p.m. Tuesday in game one at Goldsboro High School. Post 11 is scheduled to head to Pitt on Wednesday, July 10, before returning home Thursday. If necessary, the two teams will play on Friday at Pitt and Saturday at Goldsboro to determine the winner. All games will start at 7 p.m.
