The paving of the winding road at the entrance of the Mount Olive Municipal Airport is a state-funded project, but a date for the work to begin is still uncertain.
Town Manager Charles Brown said the work is included in a contract already approved that included resurfacing of Breazeale Avenue, most of James Streets and some other state maintained streets in town.
“We know the work will be done, but we have no timeframe as to when,” Brown said.
There have been efforts to straighten out the winding road that leads into the airport, but they never materialized.
Now, potholes and cracks in the road have become a major issue.
Brown said he is hopeful the work will begin soon.
He said it has become somewhat of an eyesore and embarrassment with increasing traffic going into the airport.
