Patriotic banners installed downtown

Eight seasonal patriotic banners have been erected on both sides of the street in the 100 block of North Center in the downtown Mount Olive district.

It is part of the ongoing downtown beautification efforts of Mayor Joe Scott.

The “Land of the Free,” “Home of the Brave” banners will remain up until the fall.

“They are patriotic banners and put up for observance of Memorial Day and July Fourth as we celebrate our heritage,” Town Manager Charles Brown said.

There have been a lot of public comments about them, he added.

“We have actually had people stop in at town hall and express how good they look and compliment us,” Brown said.

The signs and others that go up during the season have been paid for with Mount Olive’s share of travel and tourism money, he said.

Other banners are used to promote fall, winter and the annual North Carolina Pickle Festival held each April.

Brown said the overall downtown beautification efforts have been “well received by the public.”
