The Mount Olive Parks and Recreation Department has a new intern on board.
Lee Sexton, a senior at the University of Mount Olive, who is majoring in sports management, recently joined the department.
Sexton is a native of Mount Olive and a graduate of Southern Wayne High School. He is the son of Patricia Sexton.
Recreation Director Josh Phillips said Sexton’s internship will be a total of 480 hours over 12 weeks.
“We have been very fortunate to have a close working relationship with the professor and chair of the university’s Recreation and Leisure Studies Department, Dr. Jill Mills,” Phillips said.
Phillips keeps in close contact with the department’s professors and visits their departments to keep them up to date with Mount Olive’s recreational programs and activities, he added.
The internship program prepares students for the working world, he said.
“We take this opportunity with the university very serious and our efforts are aimed at instilling lasting knowledge within our field of work, all aimed at helping the interns succeed,” Phillips said. “We have had great success in the past with interns getting jobs right after working with us.”
He said he looks forward to watching Sexton grow over the next 12 weeks.
